Row over council official's Cumnock house garden extension

An East Ayrshire council official is at the centre of a row with neighbours in Cumnock over claims he bought land from the authority at a knockdown price.

Building standards officer Martin Richard bought the plot in front of his bungalow in the Glebe area in order to extend his garden - and he has now started digging it up, leaving it covered in rubble.

More than 60 residents had held meetings and signed a petition in a bid to stop the sale, and set up a website to spell out their complaints.
