Resurfacing work on the A76 to New Cumnock

A £70,000 project to resurface part of the A76, between the Garfellen Roundabout and the North end of New Cumnock outside the residential area of the town, started on Monday 22nd February for five days. Works will take place between 09:30hrs and 15:30hrs each day (Monday to Friday) with the project reaching completion on Friday 26th February, weather permitting.

Working on behalf of Transport Scotland, Amey will resurface the trunk road during the project. The scheme is designed to prolong the lifespan of the carriageway and reduce the need for future maintenance at this specific location.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation continuously for the duration of the construction period to safely manage traffic through the works. Due to the narrowness of the road a convoy system with a temporary 10mph speed limit in operation will be in use when the workforce is on-site.

Four phases of major roadworks totalling an investment of around £3M in the A76 in the village commenced in summer 2006 when an £800,000 carriageway reconstruction scheme was delivered between the Spar supermarket and just north of Castle Primary School.

The work undertaken in February is the second of the four phases to be delivered and will have the least impact on the village. This phase of the works has been split into two distinct geographical areas with the imminent works causing least disruption to the local residents. The second part of this phase is currently scheduled for September 2010 in the urban part of the town. Phases two and three are set to be completed between March and June 2010.
