Knockroon development: Prince's green town next to Cumnock gets outline planning permission
7 DecemberEast Ayrshire Council last week gave outline planning permission to Knockroon, the community of 770 homes, workplaces, leisure and open spaces that will all be in walking distance. Knockroon will be built on land next to Dumfries House and overseen by the Prince's Charitable Foundation.
Knockroon is an estimated 25-year building project, with sustainable architecture for homes using green energy from biomass or wind power. A detailed planning application is to follow, with construction projected to begin in summer next year.
The foundation says it will be a neighbourhood "extension" to Cumnock, helping revitalise its economically struggling centre, rather than a separate community.
