Future Jobs Fund recruits Sean and Eddie help in Cumnock Town Centre
27 JanuarySean Scobie, (20) and Eddie Raynor (23) have started work as part of the government's Future Jobs Fund. Commencing in December, their jobs with East Ayrshire's Outdoor Amenities section have been funded following a successful bid from the Council. The Fund aims to help young, unemployed people to develop a wide range of skills to help them compete in the labour market.
During their stint with East Ayrshire, they will learn about maintaining the parks and amenity areas as well as keeping the streets clean - particularly important with all the recent snow and ice. They are also working closely with the Town Centre Manager, Kathryn Howell as part of the Cumnock Town Centre Regeneration Project. Nick Kelly, Assistant Operations Manager, Outdoor Amenities, said: 'This is a great opportunity for these young lads to develop new skills and experience. The work they are doing is of real benefit to the community.'
Councillor Jim Buchanan, spokesperson for the Environment and Regeneration said of the new recruits: 'It is great to see young people from the Cumnock area being helped by the Future Jobs Fund. The work these young lads are doing will help the ongoing regeneration of the town centre and make Cumnock a better place to visit, live and work.'
The men themselves are already feeling the benefits of the scheme. Sean Scobie said, 'This is a great opportunity for us and I'm really enjoying it.'
Eddie Raynor added, 'We've been working really hard over the last few weeks, especially with all the snow and ice - I've learnt a lot from the rest of the guys here.'
