Cumnock MP raises Stuart Walker murder with Prime Minister as police hunt continues
26 OctoberThe brutal killing of Cumnock man Stuart Walker has been raised in parliament, with Prime Minister David Cameron adding his condolences to the tributes which have flooded in from all over the world since Stuart’s body was found in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Sandra Osborne, MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock raised the issue during Prime Minister’s Questions at the House of Commons on Wednesday 26th October, asking Prime Minister David Cameron, and calling on local people to help police with their enquiries into the killing.
She said: "The whole town of Cumnock in my constituency is in a state of shock following the very brutal murder last weekend of a local man, Stuart Walker - a very popular local man. Will the Prime Minister join me in sending condolences to Stuart's family and, amidst much unhelpful speculation about the motivation for this murder, will he join me in calling on local people who have any information to go forward to the Police to help them with their enquiries?"
In reply, Prime Minister David Cameron sent his condolences to Stuart’s family, and joined her in urging anyone with information to contact police and help them with their investigation.
In the days since his death, Stuart’s family has been ‘overwhelmed’ by tributes , and Stuart’s aunt Irene Mullen, told the Herald that his parents, Isabel and David, are struggling to cope with the murder. But added that they have taken strength from the wave of sympathy that has been triggered by the news of his death.
She said: “The response from the community has been absolutely overwhelming for us. It’s been tremendous and it just shows how well liked he was.
“He was a great guy and a real friend to everyone who knew him, and his death has brought the whole community together. It’s struck a chord with everyone.”
Lisa Kirk, 26, described him as “amazing”. She added: “The whole town’s in absolute shock. I can’t get him out of my head, and his poor family. I grew up with Stuart when he stayed in the same street as me and it’s just absolutely heartbreaking. Folk will never get over this.”
