9/6/2009Successful Big Bone Walk for Osteoporosis Society
Thirty-seven walkers recently took to the road along the 44-mile River Ayr Way for the Big Bone Walk to raise cash for the National Osteoporosis Society. The marathon walk took place over four days from Friday 22 to Monday 25 May, along Scotland's first source-to-sea path network.
Cathy Jamieson MSP showed her support by joining the walkers on the Sunday. The trail follows the River Ayr for 44 miles, from its source at Glenbuck, birthplace of the legendary Bill Shankly, to the sea at Ayr. This is the third year that the group has done the walk. Anne Simpson, Manager for the National Osteoporosis Society, welcomed walkers at the finish and handed out certificates.
Organiser Janette Leitch of Cumnock Osteoporosis Support Group said: "The walk was very much enjoyed by everyone. The weather was great. Thanks go to all our volunteers, as well as Raynet members who provided support and first aid." Ladies of Sorn Senior Citizens Club supplied tea, coffee and cakes. Milligan's Coach Travel, Afton Bakeries, Farmfoods and the Scottish Co-op also provided donations of transport and food for the hungry walkers.
