Knockshinnoch. September 7th 1950
September 7th, 1950, Knockshinnoch Castle Colliery, Ayrshire.
An accident cost the lives of thirteen men. It would have been much, much worse if not for the bravery of others who risked life and limb to help 116 of their comrades to the surface. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DHjZcTXO1A
Come the 7th September 2010, it will be exactly sixty years since the disaster. How many of us wouldn't be here today if not for those local heros?
Remember the thirteen, the survivors and the heros.
How will we remember the date?
